Sexual Misconduct and Violence Briefing for College Staff

Durham University and St Chad’s recognises that sexual misconduct and violence, including, but not limited to, rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking and domestic abuse, are matters of international concern impacting university communities.

The University’s Sexual Misconduct and Violence Operations Group includes representatives from across the University and is focussed on making Durham a safer place to live, work and study.

Durham University has a Sexual Misconduct and Violence Policy which is adopted by St Chad’s College. Through this policy, students have the opportunity to share information with the University about their experience in the form of a disclosure or report.

Training for St Chad’s College staff

The University has a comprehensive training programme in relation to Sexual Misconduct and Violence. While staff in student support roles will attend additional training (with other staff are also welcome to request attendance via their line manager), the below document provides a policy briefing which should be covered by all staff.

This policy briefing session will also be delivered bi-annually in-person to all staff while the below documents are provided to ensure those unable to attend in person are updated. If you have attended the in-person policy briefing with other St Chad’s College staff within the last 2 years, you do not need to take any further action and can mark your SMV training as complete in the online form. These pages also remain available for your reference in the future.

Please read the below document carefully if you have not been available to attend the in-person policy briefing in the last 2 years.

Disclosure Reporting Forms

For those who attended the in-person session, the Disclosure Recording Form referred to in the session is available HERE. Staff are encouraged to speak with the Vice Principal, who will provide support and guidance, ahead of completing this form following a student disclosure. In the event that this is not possible, staff are encouraged to inform a College Officer regarding the submission of the form as soon as possible.

Further information

Further information is also available on the University webpages HERE. At St Chad’s, the Vice Principal is also a qualified Sexual Violence Liaison Officer (SVLO) and is therefore the lead College Officer for this area. Victoria is available to speak with any member of staff regarding matters relating to SMV.
